When we came out of the de Young on Sunday, we walked across the plaza to peek through the fence at the new Academy of Sciences. We are very excited about it opening in the fall. We had been to the ‘Gilbert and George’ exhibit (with mixed reaction from this group), had studied some of our favorites (Bischoff, Diebenkorn, etc), admired the Andy Goldsworthy crack in the entryway, and were generally pondering ‘what is art’. Then we happened upon this scene: 
Was it a sculpture? No, it was an apple on a step. Art.
