things I find interesting

There are many, many things that I find interesting.   I will reveal two of them to you:  the way the brain process information about faces, and Alan Greenspan.   I also like to read the “Science Times” section on Tuesdays.   Sometimes I don’t have the time to read them in the morning, but I see an interesting article, so I fold it up and save it on the shelf near my desk.  In one of my ongoing (generally failed) attempts to clear my work area,  I came across an old article about the way that we see faces everywhere we look.  (Virgin Mary in a grilled cheese sandwich, human face in the Cydonia region of Mars, Mother Theresa in a cinnamon bun, etc.) (aka the Nun Bun, by the way).  I love this stuff.     I recall reading an article about a man, who, after a series of stokes, was found to have profound prosopagnosia, and could no longer recognize human faces.  But he could identify the individual sheep in his flock of 36 sheep.  He could tell sheep apart, but could not process the information to identify human faces.   How does that work?Anyway, back to some of my favorite things.   I do think that this is Alan Greenspan in a dinner role: alan_greenspan.jpg
