FineLine Letterpress

can I print my paintings?

I would like to somehow connect my paintings to my printing.  Here are some of the ways I am thinking about experimenting with this:

- Take a photo of a painting and then with photoshop, split it into three files for RGB (or is it four for CMYK?)(OK, obviously the photoshop (or is it illustrator?) aspect of this is not my forte, but I know I could figure it out.) and then make plates for each color, and with careful registration, letterpress the three (or four) colors.

- Do a line-drawing overlay on a photo of the painting, and make a plate of the line-drawing and print it in one color.

- Print the plate from the line-drawing, and then add to the print with a lino-block to pick up certain patches of color (eyes, lips, etc.)

Any other ideas?

Here is a painting I am working on that I might like to experiment with.

OK, quickly I will try the line drawing:

If I added just one color:

OK, this looks pretty bad, however; it always surprises me how much the printing can improve the image – it is the magic of letterpress and the texture that is created with thick paper and ink down in the grooves.  Even an unappealing drawing such as this can sometimes become intriguing (and maybe even a little beautiful) when it comes off the press.
